For Unions to work in auto transport, the entire industry would have to fall in, or pay in as it were. But I am watching large mfg's now go with non union transport companies hauling their brand new cars & brokering them out on Central.

As far as Union companies still left running there is Cassens, Jack Cooper & Allied? Who else is left?

That's the problem .... pretty much the entire industry (trucking and auto manufacturing) USED TO BE UNIONIZED. So they would have to fall BACK in as it were. If you think about it, things are turning back towards what began the unionizing drives of the last century. Low pay, coorporate greed ..... etc etc. Mind you, another driving force of unionization was worker safety, but we have things like OHSA, and WCB, and so forth these days for that ...

    Just my opinion

You can even go for cars for auction rather.

Some of the automakers have been contracting to non union carriers for years. Most drivers who work for non union carriers are paid percentage. The more the carrier makes the bigger paycheck for the driver. What could be more fair? Union carriers have been in trouble for a number of years. All of them have lost market share. Allied nearly went out of business at one time. There was a time when the automaker unions insisted on only using union carriers. That time has passed. Unions have lost most of their luster over the years and continue losing members. Rates for car haulers have been flat for several years.

The trucking industry used to be regulated to, and that's where the beginning of the trouble started. Look at the number of companies who haul for "nothing" have risen as deregulation was implemented

Central dispatch is good if you have room for 1 or 2 cars but not if your trying to run a business off it
