How common or rare are OTR tanker jobs?---Key part: OTR

    How short are you?. There is someone I work with that can't be more than 5ftish. Have you driven a 579?. They are nothing like those old timey long nose jobs.

    I haul food grade tanker and stay out 6-8 weeks on average. All Pete fleet though.

    I'm 5'1". One time I had to drive a Peterbilt from Kansas City, MO to Chattanooga, TN. I could not both see the hood mirrors and reach the gas pedal/brake pedal/clutch at the same time. I could only do one or the other. No fun.

    I don't know whether or not the Peterbilt I drove was a 579. I don't even know what 579 means.

    I prefer Freightliners and Internationals.

    579 is a model number, one of many Peterbilt make. Maybe it's the same model you drove maybe it isn't.

    Having driven Freightliner Cascadias, International LTs and a few others, I can't say I have noticed any of them being any smaller or larger than any other modern slope hood design.

    A taller person wouldn't notice. You are probably taller than 5'1".

    I think a person as short as 5'3" wouldnt have a problem driving the Peterbilt i drove. I was just barely too short to both reach pedals and see hood mirror at the same time.

    Most chemical tank companies have drivers that run local, regional, which is mostly out loaded and then return empty. They also have guys the run the system, or otr. Might load in Tx, go to Ny and deliver, get a washout then reload for somewhere else. If you want to stay out running chemical tanker, most will let you.

    When do most OTR tanker drivers drive the most, daytime or nighttime or is it approximately a 50/50 split?

    We haul AvGas all over the south east. Florida up to Va. Tn. etc.
