What factors into it when you are quoting the customer directly? Payments, insurance, fuel, profit margin.

Looking at a load board to compare is not an option I have.

Read very carefully here on this site! LOL. I started out low and kept reading and listening and reading and listening.....that is how I dialed in my rates....over 2 years.

    So many variables man.....SO MANY.

Shoot for 2 per hub mile in general?

Brokers could care less about payments, insurance etc. Those numbers doesn't really change no matter which direction you go, therefore you should calculate them in prior if it's worth it, before you sit in the truck.
Demand would be main factor, and how easy you would be able to get out of area you going to. To see how easy I'll get out, I open new window and making another search (if I'm not familiar what's going on in area at the moment). As long as my number for the leg is above my acceptable limit I would take the load (or negotiate).

How come $2 a mile always pops up? Your aiming for $2 and you have your own authority?

I don't know good question. It is enough to keep the wheels turnin? And then of course go for the jugular when you can! 2 seems to be the fall back rate I could be wrong.

Now start a thread, "whats the most per mile you have gotten?", and that will be a waaaaaay different number!

Lately....because I seemed to have gotten expensive :)...I ask the broker where they are before I quote.

Then I know if we can even play ball or not.

And don't get me wrong I see guys running crap for 1 per mile all the time.....people I know....but they are in a different situation than I am. They can stay out for a while and play the game better than I can....

Also calling a broker is not my option. I'm looking to work locally and hopefully bill hourly. Getting out of the region is a lot further then I want to go,
