Several days ago I needed to shutdown at around midnight at the Henryville rest area on I-65 Northbound in Indiana. This rest area is around mile marker 26, IIRC. There were two open parking spots in this rest area, but I could not get my tractor-trailer into either spot. In the Henryville I-65 Northbound rest area, there are parking spots to both the right and the left of the driving lane. The problem is the lane through that rest area is only about 15 feet wide at the widest. And if someone on either side does not pull forward far enough, in some places the travel lane is only about 10-12 feet. I had my trailer tandems slid all the way forward to reduce off-tracking, but I still could not pull into either open parking spot. I think it might have been totally impossible to pull a tractor-trailer with a semi-truck with a sleeper berth and a 53' trailer into either of the open parking spots. But on the other hand, I have driven through that same rest area several times before, and I have seen ALL the parking spots be full before. I don't know whether or not all the parking spot were full because some of the spots were occupied by bobtail trucks or with tractor-trailer with a shorter trailer than 53'.
I wonder if other drivers have some types of magic tricks to pull into these individual parking spots at this rest area that I don't have. I think that when the weather warms up, and I am able to find a parking spot at this rest area at night because there are two open parking spots adjacent to each other, I might go stand out there at the back of my trailer at night to see how other drivers are able to maneuver themselves into one of the single open parking spots in the middle of the night.
If there is only one open parking spot (so the parking spots both to the left of the open spot and to the right of the open spot are occupied) at the Henryville rest area on I-65 Northbound, and if ALL the parking spots on the opposite side of this open parking spot are occupied by tractor-trailers (so you cannot swing your truck to the opposite side of the parking spot to get your trailer behind your truck), how are you able to pull forward into this open parking spot without hitting a trailer on either side of the parking spot?
How do you park in a single open parking spot at Henryville rest area?

Looking at Google I wouldn’t even consider pulling in there. Looks like a great place to get hit. Hopefully you can figure out your conundrum.

It probably got full before by people pulling in and getting the spots in order as they came to them rather than skipping a spot.

I suppose I was right the other night when I thought it was impossible for me to get in.Truckermania Thanks this. -
Are you looking for a pat on the back? Applause, maybe?
You were presented with a minor problem that you solved. That's part of your job. -
P.S. On my "Truck drivers you should not team with" thread, you said that you were going to put me on ignore. -
