The REAL questions you should be asking:
    • How much hassle/wait time is usually involved to in-gate (& out-gate) the railyard(s) that you will later use?
    • How much average wait time is involved (if any) for a driver to have his assigned intermodal container to be loaded on an intermodal chassis (by a crane)?
    • How much time (usually a few days) is involved for a new intermodal driver to spend with a trainer -- for intermodal duty?
    • If you switch to intermodal -- will you drive OTR (like I did) & drive a sleeper cab -- or will you instead drive a daycab -- & go home every nite?
    • If you switch to intermodal -- how will you be paid? Is it worth the switch financially?
The wait times involved....to get in/out of a rail or shipyard...&/or to load a container on a chassis....can make (or break) you. o_O

Also: a recruiter can't/won't be able to answer the above questions on a worthwhile level -- only current intermodal drivers can help you there.

Are you not the one that chimed in on my 1st statement about talking with the guys DM?

You're getting terribly confused here seems like. On an open forum my advise far out weighs your uselessness.

Why don't you chime in with something useful for the OP? Or go take a nap or something. Bye bye.

Something else to consider: how much CDL driving experience do you already have?

The backside of a Costco store -- and/or at a Costco warehouse -- is a much better place to practice/hone your backing skills -- than in the typical intermodal rail or shipyard.

If your backing skills are not up to par -- a transfer to intermodal will (at best) prove to be pre-mature.

Swift should have their own requirements in place for this potential problem.

The above will also factor in with how soon you can make an intermodal transfer.

An open forum is great as proved by the various replies from many other people not just dwelling on one response to yours. Have a good day Snowman.

Your DM will want you to stay put where you are. No reason to ask them. Just start negotiating with the people at intermodal. Your needs come first.

Quick to switch accounts at Swift for me...2 weeks ago I was OTR, now I'm Coors Denver account. I just used the FlowCode website and found the placement/transfer email address...emailed it asking to switch to Denver and within a week it was done.
