looking into some long haul reefer companies and trying to find some that offer the right home time. The Megas like swift seem to want you home no more than 4-5 days max no matter how long you stay out. If I stay out 6-8 weeks I want to be home for 7 solid days without turning in the truck. What’s been your experiences how long do you stay home for and do you have a home time cap?

You'll be lucky to find a "mega" that will let you stay home much over 34 hours. Companies don't make money if the wheels aren't turning.

But @Chinatown might know some that will accommodate that sort of home time. Might want to let him know what part of the country you live in though.

Sure, run the good months such as March 1 through Oct 31 then fly home on the pile of money you made all year.

Last I heard, Shaffer Trucking will allow you to stay out as long as you want, and they ask only that you are in service 80% of the time...so 6-8 weeks out and then 7 days off should be good with them. They do not ask for the truck to be turned in unless you are off more than 10 days, but that is not set in stone. I drove for Shaffer until last March, and that was the deal then, I am still with the company, but on the Crete side now, and that applies here, too.

Its been 5 years since I was there, but for 4 1/2 years that I was at Steven's, they never said anything to me as long as I kept it under 14 days. I generally ran 6 weeks took a week off, sometimes I'd run over 8 weeks, if I did, I'd take 13 days off.

Try Magnum. Pretty liberal home time policy.

I usually run three weeks out, 4 day weekend.

Longest I took off was three weeks, went sailing in the Caribbean. Like to take a nice vacation in the winter.
