I was independent, and then I was leased to Landstar. Made just as much money as independent and did not work nearly as hard. And then I sold the truck and took a local job to be home every night.

The time may come when I buy another truck, who knows.

My father and I were independant about 8 years ago we turned in the last truck and I went to work as a company driver.
Now I am looking into buying a truck again and Brickman may have helped me lean twords landstar also. It's about as close to being independant as you can get without having the authority. I'm also considering getting my authority since I have some good contracts lied up but I lack the financial backing to get off the ground right now.

Brickman, how is the local thing working out? It's alot more like work than otr isn't it? Personally in my job I see my family less when I am driving locally. I do both at my job now.

It is a lot more like work, but it is nice being home every night too. After 5 yrs of trucking most of that OTR the new hasn't worn off the local thing yet. 2 day weekends are nice. I'm not making the same money as I was before, but I'm only working 5 days a week too. And not working 20 hrs a week for free............. at least.
I see my wife a lot more being home every night than being gone 2 or 3 weeks and being home for 2 or 3 days and gone again.

I am more used to having control. I don't go out for two or three weeks. I don't think I could do that either. I go out fr 4 or 5 days then Im home for a few then I may work local the next week. It's nice, I get enough road work to keep my income up and not get too bored with the local. I'm on track to make something like 70k this year so I can't complain.
Move to WI and I could get ya my job when I move:biggrin_25519:
