how many of you do it every morning ?

Question is about pretrips.

So , I am not saying that I never look a things . I will say that a while , before I get flamed on.
kinda just wondering how many do it the full pretrips before drive shift ?

Normally I always at least leave parking lights on all the time , so when I get out to go inside somewhere . I always take the long way around the truck , and look at lights , mudflaps, etc.

When I fuel , witch is basically every day , hood is flipped , oil checked , anything else while its up , look at tires , etc.

I mean my pretrips is done , but kinda like a in a different way , I was kinda thinking about this the other night when I left , and it was pitch dark and unless I had a million candle powered spot light . I really wasnt gonna see much

Like I said I still make sure I look everything over , just right at the start .

 

Its called a PRETRIP INSPECTION. Would you want to fly on an airplane if you knew the pilot just gave the plane a quickie? I think NOT. ANYTHING can happen and that is why you inspect. In the dark...use a flashlight!

 

So you do a real world pretrip inspection. Most drivers do. Because we know our trucks, because we do check them often (daily), maybe just not to the fullest extent during the daily allocated pretrip time.

I've yet to see a driver inspect his brake pads for cracks when it's minus 10 outside in the blowing snow and the sun still hasn't come up. But that is what DOT would have us do every day.

 

Buy an led flash lite,they work great no matter the size.I have one the size of a pen and a key chain led lite and you can see everything.It is your responsibility to do a complete pretrip no matter how dark it is.

 

Thats kinda of what I figured , now if I was driving a truck that I didn't drive everyday , I would probably do it beforehand.

 

And therein is the difference. This makes sense and is the safe way to handle it.

Yes, DO IT beforehand with an unknown truck/trailer.

 

My local driving gig now has us do a 30 min pre and then a 30 min post trip. Truck gets looked over for a total of 2 hours in a 24 hour period(truck runs 24/7). When I was on the highway I would look at it quickly before and during my shift. Did I measure the stroke of the pushrods every day? Nope. Did I do it once a week? Yep! If I knew one was close it get re adjusted on the slack..

 

Lol. For one I don't get on air planes .
And it would be funny if a pilot got out half way up in the air to do a walk around . :smt046
and again , I do look at the truck , a few times a day , just not the way it says in the book

 

I do a complete pretrip daily except on my days off. I'll never use the excuse of, "Well, everything was ok yesterday when I looked at it" if something should happen. Checking the air system daily is a must as far as I'm concerned.

 

This would make a great anonymous survey here on TTR. Too bad we don't have a survey option.
