Well, since we started business everything has been going pretty smoothly. There has been a few minor ups and downs but nothing we couldn't handle.
Today was the first time we encounter this problem and would like to know what people with more experience in this business have to say.... We made the deal through the broker, my father gets to the address on time as usual. Once he is there, they tell him that there is no load. Turns out, the broker gave us the wrong address, it took them 30 mins to figure the whole mess out. The new pick up isn't so far from the first address they made him go to, about 15 miles but no matter what it is time consuming and fuel wasted. So far he is 1 1/2 hrs behind schedule.
How much should I charge the broker as a penalty? What they did is very unprofessional and brokers always want to charge us carriers if we mess up so it's only fair we charge them when they mess it up so royally.
Any help?

Doesn't sound like a big deal, just eat it. Also sounds like it's too late, he's already loaded up and gone so there isn't much you can do.

He's not loaded because he just got to the place and now they are telling him there is no load there either. Just called the broker and they "forgot" to tell me that there is a new reference number. wth is wrong with them??!!

And now they don't want to load him because he is "late"

Apparently the broker did not inform their client that they gave us the wrong address and that we would be late. That's real nice of them....

Not real sure what you can do. I don't know if you have some sort of commitment to this broker but to me it seems like this would be the last time you deal with them if that's possible.

O yeah, never doing business with them again. I told my dad to not let them load until I get a real answer from this people.

Ok, a little advice here. We never load until after we have spoken to the place that we are picking up at. In fact, hubby will not move his truck, until he knows the load number is good and the exact address where he is loading.
Never just assume that the broker has the right information. Its your truck, its your responsibly to get all the information from the broker and follow up to make sure that that information is correct and true.
There have been several times that we have been given a load number that has already been picked up. No reason to drive there, unless the load is actually available.Ken, Fratsit, Wiseguywireless and 6 others Thank this. -
When I talked to the broker, I made sure I asked if anything else had changed and she clearly said no that only the address was wrong. I called the number that they put for reference on their conf. rate many times but there was no answer. At the moment, I just don't care if they even pay, I'm just angry that they did this and then the office manager tries to tell me that I was late because when I spoke with him it was later. Hello? I had spoken to your employee much earlier and it was because she failed at figuring it out that I talked to you later. Never doing business with those people again, super disorganized and just a pure waste of time.
I think it's really unfair that a broker will try to rip you limb by limb in fees if you do any tiny mistake but we have to just sit there and take it when they do.

Which is the exact reason you need to CYA at all times.
Our broker told us once to load a load without a load number, nope, not doing it. We had done many loads out of that place going exactly to the same place again, but we will not load without all information confirmed from the place that we are picking up from. Not going to risk it. Its our reputation, its our skin that is on the line, not the broker.
Many times we even get directions to the facility, because there are specific truck routes that must be followed.
NEVER take a brokers word for it. ALWAYS follow up with the shipper, and confirm the load yourself.
