Come on, let’s be real here, we’re not gonna do our pre trip before EVERY trip. So, how often do you check your trucks? What procedures do you take, and what are the main things that you are looking for? And also, how do you check the parts that you can’t normally get to?

I do a pretrip every day. Thump tires, check oil/fluids/belts, visually check locking jaws on 5th wheel.

It may not be a full CDL school pre trip, but ya it gets done daily.

I remember being told as someone get more experience with pre trips and if your driving the same truck everyday. You learn what to check more. Like these new engines or the DD15 anyway has the air compressor so far back on the engine it not easy to check for oil leaks. The old S60 Detroit engine it was right up front and easy to check. If you have truck with disc brakes their is no slack adjustment to worry about anymore. You have to look at the stuff you can see and make sure it legal to go down the road. Always keep in mind they will get under you truck and check everything. Look for oil leaks and air or rubber lines rubbing together because it will be a problem if the DOT finds it.

Every morning and every trailer I pull plus mid-trip inspections and post trip. My record is 9 trailers in a shift and every single one was inspected just as thoroughly as the last. Don't be lazy. You'll thank yourself someday and so will the next guy who gets that trailer.

How much of a pretrip, I usually check lights, blinkers, kick the tires, and see if the brakes are still there either at the beginning, end, or at some point during the day.

Bean Jr. and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Check that ####-er out daily. It's a simple way to keep you out of prison if your rig kills someone because you missed a flaw. Let alone keeping your conscious clean. Check that baby.

i did the very same. the first time i get assigned a truck, i go thru it thoroughly, then it's just a matter of doing the quick basic pre-tripping.

MBAngel, tommymonza, D.Tibbitt and 2 others Thank this.
