OTR driving is very sedentary, so what have you guys done to include some exercise into your driving career?
I know diet is big struggle but how do you keep your cardio and muscle tone in check?
I know we can walk or bike during our down time but what have you done in a team setting, while the truck is rolling...to stay fit?

    Simple.

    1. Pull a flatbed and make sure you tarp every day.

    2. Hand load and unload at grocery warehouses daily.

I was thinking like resistance bands or variable weight dumb bells. Not sure what fits/ works best in that application.

Park at the furthest from the buildings and dodge the others in the parking lot, take a half hour walk a few times a day.

    Gatorgrl Thanks this.

In a team setting your idea of resistance bands is probably the best. You may need to be creative due to the lack of space but it can be done. Make the best use of time when you are between loads and get in a good walk/run if you are serious about this.

Jog around the truck stop like you see all the other drivers doing.

If you are teaming make sure the other driver knows you out running around because you might get back and find everything is gone down the road.

This ole gal doesn't "run" anymore. Hubby doesn't either. We are weight lifters...not cardio queens. I am sure we will figure something out....just bored at work and wondering what others have done.

  10. OP,

Work on diet big time,. Don't ever ever eat a roller dog of death.
    Produce is your best friend.
    Carrots, celery, apples, oranges

Don't eat after 7pm if you drive during the day. Don't eat before going to bed.

Walk around a parking lot after eating, this means rain, snow and sun. (Carry a walking stick)
Always walk along grill side of.trucks.

Inside truck. Work out after you wake up and try a bit before going to sleep.

Yes bands work well. Small 10lbs weight set.

This gives you the option to add and take weight off. As well as storage when not in use.

On the truck stop side. The TA and Petro have a small exercise room.

    Good luck

was thinking of the same thing at the beginning but didnt work out. after 11 hours of driving, all we wanted to do is lay down. breaks during driving ? all we wanted to do is eat and use the restroom. time off between loads ? all we wanted to do is lay down lol. 34 hours reset ? all we wanted to do is explore the town. while the truck is moving ? dont even feel like doing push ups or sit ups. we are pretty in shape and health conscious (go to the gym all the time before trucking) but it is pretty hard to do excercises. we are mainly focus on eating healthy only at the moment. but hey, everyone is different, you might be able to pull it off
