Has anyone been through since it reopened? Wondering what the delays are like. I'm considering going through Atlanta instead to get to Charlotte.

    Concorde Thanks this.

I went through it about a month ago. Was probably around 1-2am and no trouble at all. I’d imagine it probably gets a little backed up during the daytime. Personally I just wouldn’t try it during the daytime, but that’s just me.

I had a driver who goes through 2-4 times per week say it’s backed up, everyday. Best to go through at night, if you can schedule yourself for it.

Heck no, ATL to Charlotte ain't worth it. I've been through a few times lately at different times of day with no delay. You'll probably be fine.

My driver went through there yesterday, horrendous backups, average speed from NC to TN ended up being like 40mph

    Rideandrepair and JC1971 Thank this.

I'll be going through Sunday in the daytime. I'm thinking the traffic might be worse because of four wheelers traveling back home at the end of the weekend. As much as I don't like Atlanta, it's a fairly short stretch of 285 over to 85. It's a toss-up.

I went through there on a Sunday afternoon. The back ups are like going through a construction zone with a lane closure. Un my opinion, I think during the day, it's probably less stressful to go up 81 and drop down 77 to get to Charlotte. To go through Atlanta will probably take the same amount of time, perhaps more depending on where you're coming from, and the time you travel through there. Your confined to 40 mph or under through the gorge but it's manageable.

Halfway through you will see a section they have not even started to work on yet. The southbound lane is completely gone and only a void remains. It is going to take a long time to get that back to normal.
