That was actually in Bloomsbury, NJ.

The problem definitely is a lack of parking in this area. I can tell you that the Pilot in Clinton, NJ is full nearly all day long, and if you don't get to the T/A in Bloomsbury by about 4pm, you will either be out of luck or have to pay for a reserved spot.

Likely the driver was coming out of PA if he was parked in the eastbound rest area, and along I-78, the last decent sized truckstop is the old Frystown All-American (now a Flying J) out at exit 10 near I-81 in PA. The Loves at Shartlesville is a clusterfrick most of the day, and then all that's left is the Bandit with it's moon crater parking lot in Fogelsville and the Trexler Truck Stop (filthy #### hole) where the local drivers take up half the lot.

With all the warehouses in the Fogelsville/Trexlertown area as well as one of two main routes into central and northern NJ, a "mega" truckstop (something along the lines of an Iowa 80) needs to be built somewhere in the Lehigh Valley or western New Jersey.

At 1:40 PM I cant believe all the truck stops are full. When running that area I dont even think about it, I immediately bite the bullet and pay for a reserved spot.

New Jersey should allow parking at its weigh stations when they are not in use.

Bud A., Tb0n3 and 4mer trucker Thank this.

Is that the tiny “rest area” pull out east of the TA in Bloomsbury? The one that has room for maybe 10 trucks (assuming no cars in the way) but there’s always 20 in it parked well before and after the off and on ramps?

That place was out-dated 40 years ago

There needs to be a place west of Allentown where 150+ trucks can stage for delivery into the Allentown area as well as another in Jersey and before 287 that can accommodate another 150+ trucks

It is more of a headache of when drivers are ending their clocks. If your clock ends at 4pm you will get a prime place to park, Granted your day starts at 2 am. It is my presumption that the truck that stopped had a clock that ended around 6pm to 10pm when its the worst time and there are no parking spots where ever!

While this is true, let’s not overlook the other fact that there are more than a few drivers who will park stupid and/or in unsafe places during times when virtually any truck stop in the area has plenty of parking.

CRST has to be the worst about stopping on the shoulder. I think it’s some sort of requirement they do at least 2 shoulder stops per day, per driver.

Eastbound I40 in Tn around the 177-178 trucks are parking behind the barrels in the construction zone. I don’t understand how they think that’s ok.

Absolutely. Not to mention the Trexler Truck Stop started charging for parking 2 years ago(strictly enforced-they will have you towed-it used to be free) and the local law enforcement in the Lehigh Valley region (in particular Bethlehem Township Police Department) also doesn’t want trucks parking in the area-going as far as giving notices to warehouses in the area warning of the matter. Basically, you have to plan to shut down before you reach Fogelsville eastbound.
