I just can't decide anymore. I would like to be able to have home time in Southern California but I don't know which company would offer that more for me. I'm a new CDL student so would need to go through their schooling. I finished taking all my knowledge tests for the CDL A permit and got all my endorsements yesterday. Prime already has approved me for their CDL School and they want me for orientation next week in Utah. However, the more I look into Jim Palmer I feel that they would care more about their drivers and family as they are a much smaller company. Also, I noticed they have a terminal in Fontana, CA and Prime only has a drop yard here. Parking my truck to get hometime is going to be an issue if I can't leave it at the yard or terminal because I live in Whittier.
Equipment, it appears Jim Palmer has the best of the best. They state they have flat screen tv's already in their trucks! That's a nice benefit will save me the money of having to set all that up. The only other thing I'd need is to be able to bring my wife and 2 year old daughter along with me once I have a year of experience under my belt and my own truck.
Thoughts??? Should I just stay with Prime or go with Jim Palmer they've been calling me every day.
I can't decide!!! Prime Trucking or Jim Palmer

Jim Palmer Trucking; you answered your own question.
You need a full size truck for a rider & pet. Jim Palmer has only full size trucks. Prime has small Eco trucks, but will let you have a full size truck if you agree to take a $.05 cpm pay cut.
Plus, the terminal in Fontana is a huge plus.
Which company calls you every day?Last edited: Feb 6, 2018
firemedic2816 and tscottme Thank this. -
Gosh how bad does it look though when you have a company go to all that trouble to get you onto their orientation with a bus ticket confirmation and you bail on them for Jim Palmer. I guess I'll give Jim Palmer a call tomorrow then.

I'm not sure about Palmers trucks, but Prime only runs like 62 mph...or slower, it seems.
Goodness their trucks are slow. -

Even if I were to go to Prime I would not see myself ever doing that option just to get .05 cents more a mile. Does anybody know how are the medical benefits at Prime compared to Jim Palmer assuming I wouldn't lease a truck.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Might have trouble finding a company that let's you take 2 passengers... usually an age limit too.
Get a local job... don't miss those growing up years.LateNightCable, driverdriver and sevenmph Thank this. -
Jim Palmer is owned by Wil- Trans. So you will be pulling all of Prime freight and using their terminals also. So no real difference which name is on the door.
