Where have I seen this story before?

I truly hate when woman use that as an excuse. Just cause you have knockers doesn't mean that you can use that as an excuse or copout to every little thing!

Smaggs Thanks this. -
Well, yeah. And sometimes it's also true that some knuckle-dragger who's still mad at Mom will do what he can to prove that he wears the pant's 'round here, by gum. I dunno. I wasn't there, and I don't know the people involved and I haven't got a dime on the table over this. But at the risk of being branded a weirdo, I also got to say sexism is alive and well in these here United States.
Victor_V Thanks this. -
Funny, I came over to this thread concerned that my thread about Gordon's culture was starting to get hijacked, then became concerned that this gal really just needs some assurance that it's okay to be female and drive for Gordon and got instead a lot of static, some of it sexist. Blowtorch, you said what I was thinking--but better! So you've got another thanks. The short of it is that we rely heavily on maintenance; Gordon has some of the best maintenance shops in the business; and still, bad things slip through the cracks. Indy has a very capable female Amer/Asian (I think) mechanic, should have more female drivers. They need to feel safe. As good as they are, even Gordon's shops can be better. Hey, guess what? If the shops get better, that's better for the rest of Gordon drivers, too!

I have a close female friend who worked for gordon. Never had trouble with the shops or other drivers. This sounds like a piece that vibrated loose over time.
I fail to see how the OP being female is even related to the incident or posting.
Either chalk it up as vibrated loose or chalk it up as a miss by the shop. There's no way they would deliberately put your life at risk.
You shouldn't have quit immediately. You may have just burned an important bridge.
Here's to hoping you find your way. -
sorry everyone we were not there, womens intuition goes a long way, as well as a good pretrip, I also am a female driver who will crawl all over her truck like a spider monkey with flashlight in hand and wrench if need be. I understand where she is coming from some companies only hire women to satisfy fair hiring practices but who have no intention of treating them fairly. if this driver is like the few of us female drivers who take their jobs and their life seriously we will often have to go through several companies to find one that treats us like a driver. And not just a female. And also when I put my big girls pants on I am accused of being THE MAN so what is up with that?

The trucking industry is bad. For ALL of us. I find it hard to believe that females get treated worse than males by their company. That's just asking for a lawsuit.
The hardest part about being a lady is the way the other truckers try to treat them. I have several female friends of all ages that drive for a living. They usually get treated special because of the fact that they are a lady. Then again, they often get harassed by drivers that have lost their manners from being isolated for so long.
As a male driver, I have always done my pretrips. Flashlight and all. I actually always checked my tire pressure, even in the rain and cold. Kept an on board air line ready just in case.
Not trying to be rude, but you are sorrily mistaken if you think you're being treated without respect because you are female. You are being treated without any respect, because you are a DRIVER and most companies don't give a rat's ### about us!
If someone calls you "the man" for putting your pants on and working, it's all good. let them. I'll let anyone in the world make fun of me for doing my laundry, cooking, doing dishes, and even stitching up my ripped clothing.
We can't keep thinking that someone is judging us due to our sex. That's what keeps sexism alive. -
Oh, and I didn't mean to imply that being domesticated makes me feminine. I am implying that some people might jokingly recommend that I put on my sun dress before putting the wash on the clothes line.
