Hello my fellow Professional Drivers!
Well today got to be very interesting: I'll get right to it continuing from yesterday; I finally got in contact with the other recruiters
1. Nussbaum- One of the best and definitely most thorough interviews I've had to date! The Safety/Recruiter Josh, handled all of my 43 Questions in a Professional manner. Funny thing is, that from the start, he let me know that they where not hiring out of TX at this time, but if I wanted, he would take my questions just in case there were future changes. One of the key points for U drivers interested in this organization are- "+pos"
a. Pay is based on a sliding pay scale (but wait a minute, and let me explain); for long hauls pay ranges from .40 - .45cpm short hauls are at .48cpm/ the average weekly miles for company drivers is 2100 - 2600mi. PLUS, if at any time you do not reach a certain mileage, Nussbaum guarantee's in writing a weekly pay of $800.00 ................... 1-299mi= .48cpm...300-449mi= .45cpm 600+ = .40cpm
b. Per Diem can be Opt Out and is not mandated.. no penalties for opting out!
c. Small company 220 trucks 65mph industry avg Hauls 75% in the NE & Dakota's...DRY VAN
now the " -neg "
a. 35-40% drop 7 hook b. Start one week in hole (pay) c. B.O.Ls are turned in once a week? d. Urinalysis plus Hair follicle testing but does not do Sleep Apnea (spelling!) testing e, Trucks equipped with lane change sensors and braking sensors and other beeping side sensors ala: USX!
2. OZARK- Recruiter was patient and professional. +pros are-
a. .40cpm based on avg of 24-2600 weekly miles/ no sliding pay scale b. Avg 8-10 days out and then home c. 65mph trucks
d. no dash cams or ITERIS Lane change sensors e. Trucks governed at 65mph 10spd Freightliners.
-neg's are- a. Y.O.U. can not opt out of per diem! They conduct Urinalysis and *Collect Hair follicles for testing only IF they suspect drug/alcohol use/abuse!
3. VENTURE LOGISTICS- Located in IN and has a yard in Laredo TX; BUT, does not hire drivers out of Texas!
4. Big M- pos+ a. 1.5 day orientation in MS; you will overnight at company location in terminal. b. After 6 mos on job mileage pay goes to .40cpm c.You can expect 2500-3000 mi per week (per recruiter). neg's-
a. 2-10 year otr exp pays .32 - .34 cpm.. recruiter did not want to discuss this any further b. Per Diem is mandatory: c. Two of the recruiters are brand new on the job!
and
5. RICH LOGISTICS! Drivers, you can not make this up as to what I am about to mention! Brian is a recruiter for the Owner Operators- a super nice guy and helpful (I'll get that out the way): but, buddd, budddddttt! that Dawn (Company Driver Recruiter) is another case. As a norm, when I call companies to inquiry on a potential position with their company, I always ask Sir/Mam, do you have the time to answer my driver questionnaire, can I fax it to you or should I call back at a better time that is convenient for you? Well Dawn wanted to get right at it so-
aimhigh- how long and where is orientation held? Dawn- 1 day in Lil Rock
aimhigh- will I be provided transport to orientation or can I elect to use a Rental Car? Dawn- we only provide Greyhound Bus Fair
aimhigh- what are the make, model, transmission of your trucks? Dawn- We only use Ryder, Penske and other Leasing company trucks.
now I am sensing a attitude in her voice so I then jump around my question sheet to try to ease the tension in her voice
aimhigh- can you give me any information about these trucks? year, auto or 10,13 speed etc? Dawn- "now angrily replies" they are governed at 72mph!
aimhigh- may I ask if the company requires drivers to take Per Diem, and if yes, can we elect to Opt Out/ Dawn- "angrily" NO! You cannot Opt Out!
aimhigh- are trucks equipped with E-log and or Qualcomms Dawn- "angrily" You Know, all these questions you are asking me should be asked during your orientation! Do you have more questions? At this point we were on the phone for perhaps 3-5 minutes, if that long!
I WAS FLOORED: Politely I got off the phone, called Brian told him what happened; and then thanked him for being patient & professional but that his colleague needed immediate intervention and help on her customer service skills. btw: Brian finished answering my questions but I did not note them, sorry guys, but my mind was already made up;how could I possibly drive for a company with a representative such as her. Funny thing is, I came across another recruiter with a similar attitude last week. I have noticed that when I do send a fax copy of my questions to some driver recruiters they refuse to answer. Some have even apologized to me for this!
So, from yesterdays topic " I have 10 companies to chose: help" it looks like I am left with choosing from-
1. At top of list- de Boer
2. Followed by- DHT (Danny Hermann)
3. Next up- I want to say OZARK, but that mandatory Per Diem closes the deal. I have been itemizing since 04.
4. Next- In no particular order sits, PAM--ARNOLD--
& Celadon (but those Canadian loads)!
Oh, failed to mention: I have no arrest, DUI, Speeding tickets, No crashes, no Assault charges or Drug use; I got a free copy of my Commercial Drivers Pre Employment Screening Program PSP /CSA 21013 profile from the FOIA or Freedom of Information Act Office located in D.C. Obtained a copy of my HireRight (old DAC/USIS) reports from the Tulsa OK branch...... and HELP!your replies and suggestions are appreciated.

Aim-High
I worked for Venture Logistics for a long time back in 2006-2007 and I liked them, problem was when I moved from Dallas to Houston, it wasn't a set guarantee about home-time. When I called Vicky a couple months ago about leasing on my truck, she advised me to be prepared to stay out at least 3 weeks or better so, take that for what it's worth. I can tell you this, Laredo is mostly (or was) owner operators with 1 or 2 company trucks down there. Their core customers are the auto industry so if it decides to fart again, be prepared to have a reduction of miles (which I don't foresee that happening anytime soon) but just some food for thought.
I need a little help finding a company that would lease on a 2002 year model truck that wont require me to live on the road for a month or two at a time I need the money but I aint that desperate......besides, the truck is paid off anyway.
