Many times our loads are smaller than our lightweight tarps and have irregular shapes. We saw another flatbed putting his unused tarps on the front and back of the load so we gave it a try. Two coast to coast loads and it has held together nice and tight.
I saw this, tried it, loved it

Works well but in certain parts of the country they will walk off by themselves. Houston comes to mind.

I hope you ordered your new trailer with tarp boxes or conestoga. Tarps strapped to the deck are never secure.
I’d pile them at the rear of the load and tarp right over them as part of the load. This way they’re out of sight and perps will be less likely to walk off with them.
If you don’t have undertarps, I’d get them bought. Put them over the top of everything, so the vinyl isn’t directly contacting the load. Only unfold them enough to cover the actual item, leaving it doubled up at the corners of the item. This will save your overtarps from sharps and helps prevent condensation on the load, itself. This is very important, when hauling processed steel. -

@ducnut it looks like we are getting our trailer on the 19th now. Im too old, fat & broken to be slinging these tarps 10-13 feet up so an Eagle tarp system will be installed in September.
we have been using shipping blankets to pad the load and protect the tarps. So far , so good!
As far as theft, We are seldom stopped but we we stop its usually for 2-3 days and the trailer is unattended. we have been extremely lucky so far -
If you’re leaving equipment on the trailer during downtime, it’s going to get stolen. I can’t tell you how many loads I’ve seen completely stripped, while unattended…chains, binder, straps, whatever used to be on it. When I pulled a flatbed, I was lucky to have secure parking on another driver’s property, when on break.
Quick story: Delivered sheets to the port area of New Orleans. I stripped my load, when I got there, and secured everything before going to bed. In the morning, every driver in line that had stuff strapped or bungied to the deck had lost it. The perps simply sliced any securements.
I really enjoy seeing your two’s progression. Y’all are doing it right. -
What is this you call a tarp? I hate 4 letter words.
