    1. Light steady pressure is correct with or without an engine brake.

    2. If you have enough brakes to stop you have enough to get into the right gear and continue on, stopping exacerbates the issue and gets the brake FAR HOTTER than slowing and selecting the correct gear.

    3. If anyone is teaching that you should never downshift when going downhill they should be charged with attempted murder.

If bearings act up for whatever reason. Stopping is what you wanna do. And your stuck with a wrecker to a repair shop. I had that situation on my DROP axle 2 months ago. And i was climbing a hill. If i would have kept rolling uphill. And not noticed the flames. The trailer would have burned down. And we actually had a driver do just that. Last January. Fried 3 axles. My situation was the bearings. For whatever reason, the right hand turn to the hill done something to the left drop axle bearings. I don't know what the other driver problem was.

Driver told mechanic, "I lost my brakes". Then driver said, "Well I didn't really, you know, lose my brakes. I still know where they are. It's just that every time I apply them, nothing happens".
