Did the OP die in a fiery crash? Or was he just hallucinating after picking up some "stuff" in Denver?

Did OP stop at a scale house on the mountain and ask to get the brakes inspected?

    Are you kidding?

I'll take the drum brakes any day. I don't think they make disc brakes big enough to do what I will intend to do to them sometimes the way I do the drums.

By the way mountain work is my personal specaility and I don't "ride" the brakes all day.

The day they invent disc brakes strong enough to satisfy me on the steepest of mountains would be indeed a miraculous day. It would be seeing to be believed.

Until then excuse me while I laugh on the floor.

As far as the denver too hot posting from OP is concerned, I consider this a trollish post. Any professional leaving denver going west with hot brakes already knows he should have turned around and went back to the city to find a shop and fix the root cause right away, appointment times and such be ######. I know I would.

Nice knowing ya. How can you be so stupid as to take on the mountains west of denver with brakes that are not up to the job? What's the matter with you!? //rant.

That's the best way to go downhill is light steady pressure of 10 PSI or less.

The reason I say you can ride the brakes all day is because some people don't understand that the drums dissipate heat and they have their limits. If you apply to much pressure you are generating more heat then the drums can take. So they get hotter and hotter and keep expanding untill you have no brakes.

Disc brakes have the pads on the outside of the disc. So as they get hotter and expand you always have braking ppwer, plus they have vents. So they can take more heat and won't fade out. I have them on my tractor they are big and work good.
