Hi, after researching this site for a few years and watching youtube videos I feel I'm ready to jump into trucking after being a desk jockey for the last 20 years. 57yo, in good shape and looking for options in flatbedding around Kansas City with the option to do OTR or regional. Ready to work hard to make good money and good benefits would be an added plus. Any decent companies that would hire right out of school and age wouldn't be a problem?

    Smart move; hit the road.
Keim TS right there in Kansas hires new cdl grads and has those nice studio sleeper trucks.
Probably if you call, they'll ask, "When can you get here?"

I see Keim offers training for newby's too now. Do you think it would be as good as TMC or Melton's training programs? Doesn't look like Keim has tuition reimbursement. I should have added that as a preference also.

I'd go with Melton over TMC.
Paul Transportation in Tulsa also hires new cdl grads.
Call Keim and ask about tuition reimbursement. Sometimes websites aren't clear or up to date. Nice pictures of their trucks on the website.

Never mind the age. You won the internet at "I think I'm ready"

Trucking is a wonderful trade. Running for the Nation is something much bigger than you are. And a very good activity with flatbedding.

People die at your age because they were put on the porch or out to pasture and told take it easy. they get bored with nothing to do. And that is not good.

drove for Keim for 3 years When I first started I was fresh out of school and they did a great job with training.. its not a school setup like tmc they actually get you out in the elements to do real life situation flat bedding (I thought that was better than from inside some building tieing down jersey barriers) 1 on 1 with a trainer... great company great people and good money...
