What do you value in a trucking company?
    Is it home time?
    Is it $$$$?
    is it quality of equipment?
    is it benefits?
    Is it freight lanes?
I would like to know from you the driver what is important!

Every driver [individual] has a good employer match, somewhere. A few employer options suck in every way possible, but even those probably offer something that makes them worthwhile and attractive to somebody, somewhere.

Me. Good equipment, good people in office and shop, good range of perks and benefits, good travel lanes, in no particular order are what drives me. Yes, I won't be abused financially, but I valuate all the other bennies and add that in to determine final compensation and if I'm compensated fairly or not. I won't work for cheap, but I also won't chase pennies and nickels. If I valued home time, I'd have to be working somewhere else. My carrier takes care of home time requests, but given their lanes and operational area and freight niche, it just doesn't make sense to have to get home every few weeks. This costs everybody money,

I agree on the more accurate miles pay, but for most, hub pay is not practical, but where I work they pay real miles as per a computer program that works much like google maps but with truck routing. My pay miles is usually with 1-3% of actual hub miles. And they are good about routing and paying around weather when applicable.

Also, I would never work for a company that did not have EZPass and PrePass and/or always routed around toll roads.

As far as breakdown pay, I'd rather work somewhere this is rarely an issue. We'll get some Layover pay on the rare occasion there is just too much time on a load, but this too should be rarely needed if I'm going to stick around long.

In exchange for that sentiment, does a driver owe an employer anything?

    Oldironfan Thanks this.
