manual from DMV. Well, I mean before I start school, study it. So today I have a goal to read completely through it, page 1 to the end. Technical type reading is not my strong point, in fact, it's a "non-existent point" but here I go. I bet I have a few question when I'm done going through it for the first time. So far, I've skipped around. Looks like school end of November for me, if all goes as planned. I have held a license in Alabama, Texas, California, WA State and my home-State, Oregon. So gathering all those records should be fun:biggrin_25512: Feedback, experience, helpful hints welcome:biggrin_255:

My school was only 3 weeks. If I knew then what I know now, I would have done more than studied the cdl manual. I would have got the permit before starting school. Those who already had permits got a head start with the "hands on". If you are going to a more long term school that may not be as important.

Good timing RD! I was wondering if I could go ahead and get my permit since I won't have a chance to start school until January now. I got that seasonal job and that will pay all my extra costs I was worried about. As soon as I pass the little test questions in the manual, I would like to get the permit. I will be able to have the DOT, and whatever else I need way before January. So it's aok to get it early hey? Denise

You bet. Just check to see how long the permit is good for (I can't remember) because you don't want it to expire before you finish school and get your cdl.

Oh that's great! The more I can have ready when school starts the better!! I am pretty sure it lasts a year. I will check though to make sure:):biggrin_255:

Good luck to ya nwcountry. When I took the CDL A permit here in WI I had, besides studying the manual taken several online example tests. These were not exactly consistent with the maual, but were very close in wording and answer correctness (if thats a word).

BTW, our permits here in WI are good for 6 mo. but are renewable for quite a while (in 6 mo. increments).

Hi Mister:) I will have to be sure to check on that permit thing here in OR. I need to be sure I have enough time on it so it doesn't run out before I am through my driving classes:biggrin_25525:

Thank you much and hey, would you still have the website for those practice tests? Although those would be for WI. I just now realized that. Well, I will check out what OR might have online, thank you again, denise

There was only 4-5 chapters in the Tennessee hand book that my school told me to read. All that was needed to pass the test for the permit. In TN the permit is good for 1 year. IIRC or things haven't changed? In Florida it was 60 days:yes2557: (circa 1990)
