I know it seems crazy, but the fact is, from Sacramento to St Louis, is only about 150 miles longer via Tehachapi and Albuquerque as opposed to via SLC/Cheyenne
And Columbus OH example via Tehachapi and Albuquerque is only an additional 175 miles
However, more northern locations such as Joliet, IL, then you're talking about roughly 360 additional miles.
And if you already started up the hill from Sacramento, then that's additional, too.

I went across late last night and was surprised it was still open. Drifted snow over ice.
They can't just plow the snow off the road, they have to use the snow blowers to get it over the snowbank along the side of the road. It just keeps coming down. -

Another 4-8 inches expected in the California sierras and extending up the Cascade ranges through Washington in the Feb 26 Sunday-Monday time frame so you need to hurry and get your butt out to and over Donner early Sunday if you plan on making a Monday morning delivery in NoCal, and don't want to risk chaining or being delayed with truck closure.

How many chains does CA request you have for Donner? I've got a Monday Sparks, NV delivery then on into the Sacramento area for the other 2 stops. Never been over Donner in the winter and don't want to get stuck without the required chains.

227 PM PST Sat Feb 25 2017
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM SUNDAY TO
7 AM PST MONDAY...
* Timing: Snow will begin Sunday evening and persist into early
Monday morning.
* Snow Accumulations: 2 to 6 inches, with up to 8 inches along the
Sierra Crest.
* Winds: Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts 35 to 45 mph.
* Tahoe Wave Heights: 2 to 4 feet. Highest waves along northern
and eastern shores.
* Impacts: Snow and gusty winds may produce travel slow downs,
chain controls, and periods of low visibility in blowing
snow. Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to
capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions
improve.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Even light snowfall causes major travel delays, especially during
periods of high traffic volume. Be sure to allow extra time to
reach your destination. Leave extra space between vehicles since
it takes longer to stop on slick roadways.
