Hi All,
I am taking a single drop 53’ Flat bed up to Lewis NY coming from Cincinnati, OH. Was curious about going I71 up I90 then I86 or should I just stay on I90 then head North on I87? Looked to be more truck stops along I90. Also, will I encounter any mountain regions mainly on I87? Not a route I am familiar with so thought AI would seek out some advice. This is mainly a one time run. I should mention I am hauling a large Structure Frame Tent (aluminum beams) only at 65,000 lbs so not really heavy. Just mainly need to check load securement. Thanks in advance.

I 90 is toll road in New york. 86-88 isn't, but has more hills. 90 is pretty flat all the way across NY. Idk about 87 north of Albany but doesn't look to bad. Have to go through Buffalo on 90 too.

It was pretty smooth sailing on Sunday. Man there are a lot of tolls what seems like every 15 miles in NY . I am empty on the way back I may take another route just for fun

On 90 they don't have toll plazas on the exit ramps anymore, they track you as you drive through the overhead cameras and EZ pass scanners.

I-87 is quite rural (edge of the Adirondacks), and has few services. I-86 is very hilly in places, and has almost zero services for trucks in most areas. Locals just take the T-way; it's MUCH faster.

71 to 76 then 80 to 81 to Scranton and 84 to 87 in Newburgh is how I would probably do that one. 270 around Columbus. 80 all the way into NJ to 287 I would avoid. Nasty pavement though Stroudsburg, too much traffic and no decent stops until you get up onto 87 in NY.
That part of the country is a little tough if you aren't familiar with it. Could be worse. CT or MA I absolutely hate.Last edited: Jun 14, 2023
