I'm new to trucking and just finished my first month of solo drivng. I started in a Volvo with a lot of miles on it and I've already had to give it back and switch to a 9400 International.

Now I have to get used to living with the Icon Idle. I've figured out how to run it but it isn't very electronics friendly. When the engine restarts it shutsdown my laptop which is annoying because I use it as my GPS. Or if I forget to activate the Icon system it will shutdown by itself which I've had happen in the middle of coupling to trailers and at the fuel aisle. I think the mandatory shut down mode kicks in after only 5 minutes. Then I have to reboot my laptop(which is old and it's internal battery does not work).

Anyway I'm just looking for tips and recommendations from people who have had these systems in their trucks. I would like to be able to run things like laptops or TVs or maybe a Playstation2 without them getting shut off by the truck ignition. I'm thinking some kind of rechargeable battery system might be the way to go but wanted to ask around before spending a bunch of money and possibly getting a product that runs out of power to fast.

Only 2 options for you, from my point of view.

Buy another battery for your laptop. Or hook an invertor directly to your batteries, and keep your fingers crossed.
