If I fill my tires with helium instead of air, could I haul more weight legally?

Don't be hogging all that knowledge.... Share.
I like to run higher pressures on the passenger side tires, helps balance out the slope in the road....

Probably would depend on where in Wyoming you ended up, and which route you took to get there.

wait, as the air is forced to the outer area of the tire what replaces it is empty space right? There is no gravity in empty space, or very little, so if you go fast enough you will benefit from the lack of gravity in each tire making your truck even lighter... now, how they will scale you at 599 mph is no ones clue but I think it would work.

Don't forget to factor in whether the truck is pointed east/west, or north/south. Sunshine on the tires and all...

Which latitude? The closer to the equator, the lighter you are, due to centrifugal forces....

Oye... the struggles of an older fella. :p
That was already done, MWMD with the allusion to a '78 Pinto.
I can barely believe 2mm's to be legal (drives / trailer)... well legal sure, I guess I could believe it. Safety? Safe, or 'safe'... nah. We've established that it's overrated. When I'm creeping toward the 6mm mark I start humming a Beastie Boys tune... Sabotage! (No way I'm stuck in New England, PA, NY, the upper Midwest, in the winter, running what are basically bald tires).

If we are not careful this thread might just overcome the "How to make a Right Turn" thread.

Now, we just need to invite the rest of that crew over here.

I'm sure some supertrucker will be along momentarily to claim he's done it, using lasers to measure tire sidewall deflection, like they do in the space program.
