Start looking well in advance. I just spent the last 2 weeks trying to find a clinic to get an appointment. Nobody is taking new patients and walk in only applies if you're already a patient with the clinic in many cases.

I have a somewhat related question, I’m 47 and in good health( 0 conditions on medical report) have been licensed for a year and a half. I have just received notification that I will need a fresh medical to be able to drive in the US. My appointment is already scheduled with my primary care physician, just curious as to why they would want a new one so soon. Is there a new regulation or is this a regular thing that occurs?
Side note, my doctor doesn’t charge me for the medical check, her words” did the government tell you to get one? They can pay me then”. I think I lucked out, will see if it stays like thatAlbertaflatbed Thanks this. -
I think it varies by province. I’m in my mid 50’s, mine is every three years now. ( Manitoba). Yes it has to be done by your primary care provider, or a doctor familiar with your health situation. Mine doesn’t charge either, but almost all private doctors do. Mine does the optical part as well.

That's a new one on me. I don't leave the province so I don't know about working cross border.

Drive in the U.S.? Who notified you of that? You only have to have a current medical from your home province. Drove stateside for 24 years.Albertaflatbed and Carpenter Scotty Thank this.

How does that work when such a large portion of the population has no regular doctor these days?Albertaflatbed, Big Road Skateboard and Carpenter Scotty Thank this.

Yeah it’s tough, no doubt. On our form, the doctor has to sign under a statement saying they have been familiar with your medical history for three years.Albertaflatbed and Carpenter Scotty Thank this.

It is. The town I live in has gone through 2 or 3 doctors in the last year. There just zero stability in the medical field these days.Albertaflatbed and Carpenter Scotty Thank this.

It came from the SAAQ(I’m in Quebec). Transplanted from NB. The letter came with the forms and return envelope, not fishy or anything. Just surprised me is all. Took a photo of the letter. It’s not a big deal to get done, just I’m new to this stuff

It’s all pretty new to me, I’m newly licensed, just wanting to make sure that everything is all above board with the license. My trade time is winding down, having more problems physically getting up and down the scaffolding nowadays, been almost thirty years of itAlbertaflatbed Thanks this.
