A dually can be rated for over 26000 lbs.
The truck itself can carry 12,000, inclusive of the truck itself. It has a tow rating of 17,000. The two added together is 29,000.

Form 2290 is for the heavy vehicles over 50,000 lbs.
IFTA is based on the miles driven in a given state. It is off set by the amount of fuel tax paid to the state. If you buy all of your fuel in the cheaper states such as Indiana or Kentucky you will be underpaid on the IFTA due to the tax rates being lower than other states. If the fuel is bought in the higher states and the miles are driven in the lower states then it will be over paid.

There is not a quick figure to satisfy the question. Download an IFTA form and look at it. I will be glad to answer more if needed.

For IFTA I don't think its the rating they go by. Besides there are 1000s of guys that pull far over weight with their 1 ton duallys.

You are correct. IFTA is based on actual weight. Once the vehicle goes over the weight, it is required to be reported for the remainder of the life you own it.

That is probably subject to the state enforcement.

In a former life I used my F250 as a work truck, and paid IFTA. When I ceased using it in a commercial application and canceled my IFTA license the state never said a word. NOT ONE.

The key is used commercially. My comment is based on the vehicle continueing to be used commercially after the event.
