I did think about Gary for a while but I don't like the tax situation with Indiana and then the big problem is Gary but I did find a few houses on Zillow that were tempting

lol stay away from Gary, It’s safer living with trailer park meth head hillbillies than in Gary… you won’t be able to have back yard furniture nor a nice car in that neighborhood.

Sons Hero, Chinatown and 48Packard Thank this.

I wouldn't pick Gary. Indiana taxes are not horrible. I'm rural my property tax is very small.

Japan. It looks fun. They need children.

Indiana likes to portray itself as a low tax, low cost of living state. When looking at the totals for the state, that is a true statement. When looking at those earning less than $130k, things look much differently. Were I to move my house to a comparable area in Indiana, my effective tax rate would go up by .25 percentage points and cost of living would be about 5-8% higher.

In the OP's case, he's obsessed by state income tax and thinks that by living in a state with no income taxes he's saving money. Almost all states with no income taxes have higher sales and property taxes making things a wash. The exception is Tennessee.
