Light steady pressure works far better than snub braking when pulling a tanker.

Snub or stab braking can cause fires because when you let off the brakes, oxygen rushes into the hot brake pads.
    Light steady pressure prevents that.

"Stab and Snub are actually the same thing, terminology (the name of) differs between West Coast and East Coast drivers. No, they are very different. Hence this thread. If you said you were stab braking downhill, most people would know what you are talking about, but some may not."

I've heard steady is better. But isn't your test a bit flawed? You didn't come off the hill twice in the same gear and speed, but utilizing a different braking method, did you?

Just curious. Jakes full on, and sub 30 around 1400 RPM for me. Hardly touch the brakes. Slowing too much? Move jake switch to med or low.

Well this thread has convinced me that we live in a simulation
I would have sworn yesterday the consensus here and everywhere was the opposite of what is being advocated here by truckers that I am sure know more than I do.
I wonder if I have gone crazy somehow

Remember, these are the same truckers who think a double right turn must be made from the leftmost right turning lane of the two; they live in an alternate universe...
