I have a cobra 29ltd with a wilson 2000. I have trouble transmitting and recieving behind my truck, usually after a mile or so. Front of the truck i can transmitt and recieve about 3 or 4 miles which is all i want, but its agrevating when i pass someone i talk to and cant pick them up very long once they pass. Antenna is pointed at about a 65 degree angle towards the front. I run a hopper bottom so i have to pull under low spouts to load. What do i do to fix this issue, or can i fix it at all?

Mobile cb antennas are designed to be straight up and down, according to one of the original Wilson engineers that I talked too. The more you tilt, the more range you lose. Bull-horning antennas is another one of those CB hack shop myths that just wont go away...

When I ran pneumatic in a Pete loading from silos, I’d just reach out both windows and pop them off mirror arms with Hustler quick disconnects.

Pull out, pause for re-install, and go down the road.

Set it at say 30 degree and tune ant..The antenna needs elecrical length to work correctly....Either use a physically shorter ant(less efficient shorter range) or take ant off and replace b4 and after to leave hopper machine..
Just cutting a longer is not a fix cause you end up takeing it outta tune..

    Muddydog79 and delta5 Thank this.

Yes, the antennae is supposed to be straight up and down, not angled.

I had to tilt my dual coil predator 10k 50 inches long about 20-30 degrees forward of my Volvo windbreaker due to reflect. I was running a Connex 4300 into a 4 pill. Barefoot that setup would hit base stations 50-75 miles away, and other mobile stations I could hear 15-20 on a clear night. It’s the best hearing antenna I ever bought.
