No had a few health issues and it was a ton of work with good money but never seeing my family. Might as well be om the road.
Actually thought about going back to Irt but I think Southern Ag Carriers will be good.

Doing the exact same crap day after day gets old and boring quickly. Some people don't agree, and that's because they are boring people. Monotony is one reason why I've never pursued any dedicated or local jobs that have been advertised anywhere I've lived. This career isn't all about money for me. I will not do any job I despise just for the money. I enjoy OTR and having variety in where I go. I do not enjoy the mind numbing monotony of going to the same places all the time. It's ok for a little while, but it would never work for me if it were a permanent thing, whether it's at this company or any other.

Yeah but sometimes we have to do what we have to. You think I enjoy 2400 miles of I75 every single week? NO I'm not a boring person I have a wife and three kids so I'll sacrifice to be back every week at the same time.

You know the more I think about spring chickens comment the more I take offense. To say people that run dedicated or local are " boring people " is kinda BS what if I got on here and said people who do OTR are losers with no wife no life no friends that cant fit in with normal people I would get blasted! Just saying.

Stabob I think you have a valid point. What is boring to one is not boring to another but it doesnt make a person boring maybe things they do arent exciting to others.

We are all different people and some of need more excitement in our life than the doing the same thing everyday. I think it takes a mentally tough person to do a job that does the same stuff day in and out. I am a person that has to constantly change it up.
I agree with what spring chicken said except fot that they are boring people. We are all very different people especially me, no many people on here would want to hang with me in real life but on here we are a brotherhood that very badly needs to stand up with and support each other.

when I first started at IRT I was doing a run from Pekin, IL to st Louis 5 days a week, and off weekends, at first I wasn't happy about it, but I realised it was the gig of a lifetime so it would be dumb to turn down.

but it was mind-numbing, the only good part was 2 days off. as we all know Illionis is flat and has no trees (and 2 scalehouses on that route, 3 actually) so I can relate

when I first got into the industry they put me on a regional fleet, I wasn't happy about it at first, but the runs were OTR enough to keep me happy. yes I was in IL, OH, and WI alot (in a truck that didn't have a bunk heater, and in winter 2012, spring 2013) but they were diffrent places so I was ok with it

I told my trainer that I wouldn't want dedicated or regional since i'd want the OTR experience but he told me I should do it anyway (money was better)

When I first got my CDL all I ever wanted was to go OTR. I scraped by driving dump trucks and concrete mixers and occasionally moving heavy equipment with a lowboy trailer for a dirt work company until I had enough experience to get a true driving job. When I first went OTR I loved it. I didn't want anytime off and the farther away I went the happier I was. But I was in my 20s and my lawn business had went under, so I didn't have anything to be home for. As time went by, I got burned out and the new had worn off. The only problem was/is it's hard to take a 30k a year pay cut in order to have an 8 hour a day job. It's also hard to accept a flunkie entry level job with no responsibilities when you're used to feeling more valuable than that and doing a trade that actually requires some skill. I've said my peace about local driving jobs a few pages ago, so just like the flunkie 8 hour a day jobs that are out there, those too are out of the question. We all have to do something in life, and we should all try to pursue the most we can based on our education and capabilities. It's not a perfect world and I doubt anyone on here was born rich. If you wanna drive local, drive local. If you wanna drive OTR, drive OTR. Like Leftnut said, were all drivers/brothers, we should stick together.

One thing about this company that hasn't gotten any better is having to figure out which appt times on the Qualcomm actually mean "get there at this time" and which ones mean "this is when they start unloading"
