I’ve recently come across a 1974 International 500 1.5 Truck that’s been left out in an abandoned part of a local farmers field. It’s been parked for at least 10 years and I’m considering purchasing it. Does anyone have any information on them? I have had trouble finding info on the internet. Thanks.

I don’t know much about them other than a friend had one and it was a tough as nails 4x4 with a bullet proof 392 v8. The only thing that killed it was rust cancer. Even down here with no winter salt the cab got it bad. I have seen one at a truck show that had the 3cyl diesel in it from factory. Same one they used in the 500 crawler tractor. Owner said it was a special order done by some Tulsa OK oilman.

Howdy, and welcome. That would be the last ( 1974) and heaviest duty of the D series IHs, and called the "light heavyweights". It surely has the 392 gas V8, but could be a 345 and was a heck of a truck. Not quite the Loadstar, it was the medium duty offering.( D100, 150, 200, and 500) Mechanical parts are a plenty, but you may have trouble with body parts, etc. Due to lack of calling, most of these were crushed, or rusted. 10 years is a long time to sit, you better get it cheap.
Bean Jr. Thanks this.
