Yep that is correct. Oh I am off running fine on my own. I started 3 years ago with my own Authority with one week of experience. If I was OP I would just get my own authority and have his dad help him do stuff.

I personally had no truck experience nothing.

got CDL got truck, got numbers, and insurance with progressive. 1st year 25k

Progressive insures new CDL holders, I’m proof and many on here are as well.

The dad can have two different policies. One for each truck. It’s not like you can’t.

The truck registration, if interstate, is apportioned among the states traveled. IRP is International Reciprocity Program that does this. Dad's registration with your home state is his IRP account and like any 'fleet' can add more trucks to that account.

From day one of driving a truck I’ve been an owner operator with my own numbers. I have never driven a truck for anyone else.

This is my story. Took permit test after 1 week of “studying.” I called up a local cdl mill and did 2 hours of on the lot driving and took road test with them. My brother took me out for 3 hours of driving with him just to get more experience. I purchased my truck and trailer very next week and received my numbers at the same time and hit the road.

I have never driven for anyone, have never leased with anyone or even knew how to drive a truck prior to 2018. My only experience with a semi truck prior to 2018 was back in 1997 with my brother. That’s when he took me out to Az with him in his truck.

Now was this the smartest move? No.

Was it one that fit me? Yes

My point on asking was because progressive will most likely not take a new driver unless with own numbers. If he does not have his own numbers he most likely will not be able to get insurance with his dads company.
Also glad you made it similar to me. It is not as hard as most make it out to be.
