I understand there are hot spots for connecting to the internet. What I dont know is how it works. Is it something that ties into your cell phone?Like, how does it connect? How much does it cost?Which provider/s do you reccommend? Is it as slow as dial up or somewhere in between that and broadband(cable)?Real curious about this one.

I am using Verizon(there are couple other companies)card for my laptop,it works everywhere Verizon have signal. So i dont have to stop, look for the 'hot spot',by the way its not always free.
With Verizon i paid $50 for the card +montly fee.It was $70/month,but there some other providers who charge less:about $30-40.

is that a cell phone account and you use it to get on line?Or something altogether different.I saw you wrote "card" so that must be the transmitter/reciever partthat plugs in the laptop. What is the type of service called?Wireless internet acess? maybe I can look right at verizon online and others for more info. Thanks

You dont need cell phone account with Verizon to get a card(but it might be cheaper, they call it family plan and add 1 more line ).Its called National access-broadband access pc card.No wires involved, very easy and convinient. You can check with phone companies or stores that sell cell phones and services.

i use a cingular internet card. i have had it for over a year now and it works good and wherever i have regular phone service. It's a internet card that plugs directly into your computer (laptop). It's a little pricey but i like the assessiablity and freedom i have with it. When i was on the road and going back next week i didn't have to look for a hotspot cause i could use it anywhere i wanted. speed depends on where you are. and that is with everybody. the best deal for you is how much you use the internet and where you park for the day. i like the freedom cause i can stop and hook it up and play on it anywhere i want and don't have to find a truckstop i have wifi with. to me trucking is a pain enough why add another headache to the day.

just looked at verizon, sounds like slow connection speeds.I like the idea of having a phone and internet together package. If I do get into trucking,I will want acess for email mostly but sometimes yahoo messenger to chat.I guess the slow speeds will have to do.Thanks

your not gonna get the high speed connection from wireless that you get on your home computer. I have the bundle pack from cingular and that is why it is so high for me. if that is all you want to do and don't plan on spending all that much time on it then you might want to look more into wifi. the prices are reasonable and good connection , so i hear.
