This Highway Has So Many Potholes That They’re Lowering The Speed Limit - TruckersReport.com
The crumbling infrastructure of our highway system is becoming a joke. Note in the article how the highway patrol KNOW there is a serious hazard, to the point they provide escorts through the section of hazardous road.
A few months ago I read an article that said Oklahoma has the 5th worst off interstate roads in the nation. Connecticut was the worst, Hawaii was second worst, and I forget who came in third and fourth. There's a certain state road in Oklahoma with a posted speed limit of 65 mph. If you run that road any more than 15 mph you are either brain dead or insane.
On that road local drivers know the score. There's a half mile section of potholes so deep and wide locals will park at the far end of a half mile section to allow oncoming traffic to weave from ditch to ditch on a two lane highway. My last time through there an impatient sand hauler in a Century Classic passed me on the right as I got into the ditch on the left. I was in Lo gear easing into a 15" drop into a pothole that went from ditch to ditch. Mr. Sandhauler hit the 24"+ drop on the right side at about 25 mph. Coolant started leaking all over the road, with steam pouring out from under the hood.
There's a time to hammer down. Then there's a time to be REALLY cautious. If you have a CB, keep it on. Ask local drivers where the potholes get really bad and which lane to run.
If you don't have a CB pay close attention to which lane the daycabs are running. Follow their example.
Interstate speed limit dropped because of potholes

They had to shut down I-75 to fix the pot hold, in the area that this is happening, the road is only 8 years old and it is the second replacement of a road that lasted 30 years.
If they just do maintenance to the roads here, seal the cracks and reseal them when needed, a lot of the pot holes would not even happen. -
Aren’t fuel taxes supposed to go to fix this stuff?

We expect to do battle this spring again with potholes, however we have drawn which roads we will be using until summer. Last year we incurred about 2000 dollars plus in losses to potholes alone the road damage. this year we are running that one tire out and expect to lose it then replace it with a good ply one.
