just started using inverters so I got some questions I recently purchased a continuous 800 watt inverter that has a 1600 watt peak capacity. Can anyone tell me what that means the continuous and the 1600 watt peak capacity and will it run a little refrigerator im coming up with 450 watts on the fridge i took the volts and multiplied it by the amps but it just dont sound right. Thanks for any info on the question
inverter question

It should run the fridge, it will run 1600 peak for momentary loads, and is rated for 800 continuous. Motor loads are different because they factor in inductance where most electronic loads only factor in resistance. Some motors don't run well on inverters because it is square wave and not a sine wave, some inverters produce a modified sine wave. I tried running a low wattage motor on an air filter with one and it fried that motor and the inverter. Many people are able to run a fridge with an inverter without problems.

It'll run the fridge.
While you came up with 450 on the watts. That would be considered peak draw for it. Most time it will simply draw a smaller amount, until the compressor kicks in. It's the kicking in part that spikes the invertor. It will settle down to about 2-300 watts draw (some even lower) once it comes up to speed.
Be forewarned, your inverter will cause a heavier drain on your batteries due to its small size and it will wear out faster. The fans will be running more often than one that is larger.
It may pull a small microwave too. But if the fridge kicks in while running it, expect it to shut down.
On the invertor, 800/1600
800 is what it's rated at for continuous load without damaging it. Check for time limits on specific loads. It will handle surges up to 1600 watts. But won't be able to sustain that rate of current flow for long. -
Yeah, my inverter killed my fridge. I suspect it did anyway. Could have been a victim of road vibration/bumps but I think it was the dirty power.
