Dang, at least 8 people were killed in Branson by that storm.
'Duck boat' capsizes in Missouri, kills at least eight: police

Is this kind of rare or unprecedented? Or not been recorded until now?

It happens. Most of the time it his a field or an out building. Iowa is mostly farm land. Growing up in northern Illinois it seems like every two or three years you get a bad out break. I wonder if el nino or la Nina has any affect on it. More storms, so more tornadoes.

Didn't a bad tornado hit Rochelle, IL few years back? That must have been terrifying for everyone at the Petro that day.

That’s about the most senseless incident I’ve heard about in a long time. I guess they don’t have internet, smartphones, television, or radio in that part of Missouri. That system snuck up on them, completely out of nowhere? They know that boat can’t manage rough water so why they ignored those dark skies bearing down on them, I can’t begin to comprehend.

I dunno, they say the tornadoes in Iowa were a surprise to everyone, and around here they blow the sirens for every little chance of a thunderstorm and we don’t pay attention to them.
It’s weird they didn’t have life jackets on

That area of Iowa was in the bullseye of an Enhanced Risk area for 36 hours prior to the outbreak. And the Missouri thing, that meso system was clearly defined and bearing down on the lake well in advance, with a well defined stong outflow boundary
