I'm looking at moving to a different company and possibly taking a position hauling tankers. How does seasonality affect tanker freight? Would I be hurting for work if I'm just getting started in the fall and going into the winter?

Do you know what kind of products that company hauls, might lead to better answers.

if its general commodity chemicals then I would say January is the slowest month. Dedicated you are at the mercy of the customer and their production schedule. The economy plays a big role too, since most of what we haul goes to manufacturers. 2015 was very bad and that carried over into 2016 because of the presidential election. This year has been very solid, it's fall and not slow at all.

We are usually very busy in the winter months, Our slow period if any is mid summer for a week or 3.
Starting now is a good time, Anytime is good to start tankers, Don't let winter scare you off, There's no hurry in pulling a tanker, Pays well enough to where there's no rushing around.
Take you time, Slow is faster

Edit: When I said we, That's how it is where I work

They haul only food grade products. Prime.

In our area hauling fuel is very seasonal. In the winter when the farming shuts down and the loggers are snowed out and the construction projects are weathered out and the tourists are staying home there just isn't as much fuel being hauled.

I wouldn't have that problem in the Southeast as much. Sounds like you're probably in the north west somewhere.

You're right. And if you had mentioned your location in your first post I would have known that my advice wasn't pertinent.
    Good luck to you.

With refrigerated freight, I'm driving in all 48. I would still be OTR… Is there a lot of OTR freight for food grade tankers?

There seems to be. Do a search for Indian River and Oakley. They both have websites and there's also information on them in the forum.
I'm in California and I see Indian River's tankers frequently.
