Having done both for many years as well I can assure you I would never ship anything priority via the railroad unless there was no other option, especially since the current PSR Harrison nonsense. The RRs today don't give 2 ####s about customer service, only the shareholders. As our customer, you'll get a switch on these days of the week only and you'll like it. I've watched customers across from our yard sit and wait for there load of chemical for 10 days before they decided to let them have it. They could literally see it sitting in the yard. Also ask many grain companies there thoughts on the railroad, be prepared for an earful. Does it have the potential to be more efficient than trucking, absolutely. Won't happen in this day and age though.

The only gold coming to drivers is golden showers from brokers.

Well, no way will see a rise in rates. Some of the products transported by rail will stay on rail and that can be moved to trucks will most likely be contracted work.

Barge transport is actually the cheapest, but they are slower than trains. Barges have recently been struggling because of the depth of the MS river. They told me at the grain river port they could only fill barges half full right now.
