I knew a guy who hauled liquid N2. As perk when you die they freeze you until they find a cure.

    -321F most certainly CYRO.

What's really interesting is that it displaces room air oxygen abvoe it. So if you were standing near it you drop in a few moments due to no oxygen. (20% of all air you breathe is oxygen and the rest is essentially nitrogen and a few other things)

During training the mentioned how valves could leak, etc. and mentioned to NOT keep your head inside the 'bucket box' [the compartment at the rear of the thermos bottle] while operating the valves. etc. due the the possibility that the N2 had displaced the O2 in that confined space.

Two am phone call, "the pump is frozen at XXX hospital in Brooklyn, what do I do?"

Throw a bucket of water on it..."all they have is cold water"...50 degrees is still a lot hotter than -295.....Try it...

It will boil the nitrogen off the pump at the bucket of cold water. Nitrogen boils off when hit with water.

I prefer not to be the one throwing the bucket of water on that pump though. Too much chance of a injury.

Anyway I am the last person to be discussing this problem, I prefer to remain high up in the cheap seats tossing peanuts trying to help in some tiny way.

As of today I'm a cryo hauler. Interesting so far. Procedures and valves. Plus some driving.

Here is a dumb, stupid, almost trollish question to you CYRO drivers.

How in the world do you manage those hoses without becoming Mr Freezeburn?

Oldironfan, Toluca Lake and speedyk Thank this.
