I would like to know if it is legal for me to wear hearing protection (ear plugs) whille driving a CMV?
If it is legal or illegal, please give me the "chapter & verse" from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Thanks all for your info in advance.

Huh??? Can't hear you, got my earplugs in. Now try that line on the motorcycle cop who's been running alongside you for the last 10 miles with his siren on. Let us know how that works out.
Forget the "legalities", if you're that dang sensitive, a truck is no place for you. -
How can you hear the engine if there is a problem developing? or a tire that has blown out? or a four wheeler horn that you are about to hit? ETC.

They are just now considering a waiver for 20 deaf truckers, but nothing has been decided.
In many states wearing ear phones is a violation since you are unable to hear outside of the vehicle. -
Military drivers are required to wear hearing protection on some trucks.

In today's trucks if you need hearing protection maybe you should find the knob that turns down the blasted radio.

From what I looked up its not a fmsca law its for ALL drivers. I have found that ALL states have a law of the use of earphones, plugs or buds is illegal in both ears. But one is legal as in bluetooth devices and such.
If I am wrong then I looked and wrong data.
But common sense is no to any headphones or such devices but one is allowed. Just pay attention to your driving -
way back when I should have used ear plugs as now I have tinnitus , the fact that I was a door gunner in "the NAM" didn't help either but I wish I had worn them then and in the truck back when they were loud. I do stick them in when the hissing and the "voices" start up.
