It doesn't "carries to the other lower 48." How did you get your concealed carry without knowing this? There is no federal law prohibiting carrying a firearm in a commercial vehicle as a general rule. There are laws against carrying in National Parks, National Monuments, Prisons, Federal Court Houses, Military Installations, etc.

you definitely can't in California(permit or not). I think you only way you can carry there is if it's separated from the ammo and in a locked case, which kind of defeats the purpose
-
YES it is against the law to carry any firearm in a commercial vehicle this includes mace of any concentration and pepper over 5% concentration

You can carry a pocket knife as long as the blade is less than 4" and not concealed. You are not allowed to have the knife on your person while crossing the Canadian border.
You can carry a cattle prod or similar style tazer (not like the cops use) but not across the Canadian border unless you are actively transporting live stock and if so again you can not have it on your person while crossing the Canadian border. -
YES its true this issue is not covered in U.S. Title 49 S.S. 395 (better known as the FMCSR) it is covered in U.S. Title 18 S.S. 926(a) Which states that firearms may only be carried in commercial vehicles in the caro compartment, and not on the same vehicle or combination of vehicles as the firing component and/or ammunition. Expect under express or written consent of local authority i.e.: such as is armored vehicles.

I have a carry permit for PA. I ran loads from Philadelphia, to Grove City, PA all the time. I had a holster, holding a .44 Magnum Smith&Wesson Model 29. It was fully loaded. I also had 2 speed loaders holding 12 extra rounds.
One day I was stopped by a D.O.T. officer. He asked me if I had any weapons. I told him I did, and I told him what I had. It was hilarious watching his face turn pure white, as he yelled "Don't you move!!!!". He called for backup. A State Trooper arrived a short while later. He asked to see my weapon. He asked to see my permit. He went to his car, and verified my permit was good. After that, he gave me everything back, and told me to drive safe.
The D.O.T. officer was about ready to have a tizzy fit. The Trooper calmly explained to his less informed friend that I was not breaking any laws, Federal or otherwise.
There is no law banning guns from trucks. There are, however, a boatload of State laws that can make your head spin, when you go from State to State. You have to obey the local and State laws, of each area you travel through, if you have a gun in your truck. Most times, having the gun in a locked box, unloaded, while having your ammo in a different locked box, will keep you legal.
Now I must go on to say, that being legal does not mean you will not have problems. You might get locked up by a cop who does not know the law as well as he should. You will be let go later, but it will be a big hassle. -
CDL1968,
You seriously misunderstood 926a...you are so very wrong about what you think it says.
