Is it legal to tow a converter dolly with a tractor, with a trailer on the dolly?

In other words, you have the converter connected to the pintle hook on the tractor. Then a trailer is on the converter dolly.

If you cannot provide a statute, then i welcome your opinion on why or why not this should be legal or not.

i'll reveal why i'm asking later, maybe.

I can think of reasons it shouldn't be done, not really any reasons it should be illegal to do though.

Never mind the law. That's a bad idea due to having no weight on the drives. Hook the dolly behind the trailer.

The pintle hooks on our tractors are only rated at 3000lbs.

Sure that's not 30,000? Even a 10,000 for a heavy pickup is small. Simply asking since I have not seen it.

Have to agree with ya. Be like putting 25,000 on the trailer axles only and taking off on a snow covered road.

Absolutely positive that is 3000lbs. They are meant to pull a converter dolly and nothing else.
They aren't like the pintle hooks on the back of pups.

De Trucker is correct. You'll wind up with your subframe ripped out, dolly and trailer MIA and a lot of attention from Law Enforcement. And that's just the first 90 seconds.

If the truck is designed for it and has a heavy enough pintle hook, it may be okay.
As stated most highway tractors I have seen with a pintle hook only have the light duty ones that are only designed with the thought of using it to re position an empty converter dolly. Plus the rear cross members are not heavy enough and will be ripped out. Seen it done.
But again, if the truck was set up for it. I'd watch to make sure that the fifth on the dolly was ahead of the axle to put some weight on the truck. Otherwise it could get pretty hairy.
