Is it normal to go to a company sponsored CDL school but not work for that company?

I just looked at the distance its 34 miles,I would suggest visiting the school talking to students and instructors before making any decisions.I got my cdl thru Iowa Central in Fort Dodge,Iowa,I drove there and spent a day talking and observing before I signed any papers.

Thank you, I wasn't even aware there was a school in WV. The reason I was looking at Sage was due to all the good feedback I read about them on truck driving forums like this one. I visited the school and all of your time in the truck is one on one with an instructor, which is really important to me.

I had an out of fuel on my DAC (if it was called DAC back then) in 1997. When I applied to my new company last month they asked about it so it's still there I guess. Didn't matter, but it was there.
