My husband just got his CDL and is currenty in Williston, ND. He is actually working in construction but gets the word from all sorts of jobs there in oil companies. The problem is I refuse to live anywhere in that area or surrounding, just never grew on me before living there.

Even with a slight lower pay wage we are considering going to Texas. I liove TX but the problem is WHERE?? I have only been in Dallas area but oil seems to be thriving in other parts of TX. I have heard Midland is where it is but here it seems to be all over. What are options for him to look and be in 1 to 2 hour proximity to having a decent family life? Midland seems ok but seems to have their own housing problems now. Just don't wanna deal with a housing problem place.

And are companies still hiring new CDL drivers? Thanks!!

All over the Eagle Ford Shale (Southeast TX) from the border on up and to the east. San Antonio, Victoria, Alice, George West, Corpus, and so on. And yep, some are still hiring new CDL drivers, not as many maybe....and more liklely if you're there than if you apply on the phone or over the net.

I just got hired for work up in Midland myself, as a newbie. Wasn't having much luck in SE TX, but I was trying to get hired without going there cold. no patience....lol

    good luck!

-{ quote snipped for efficiency }-

like jahb says to which I add do all your looking before you launch ~ stranded unless you have enough credit-cards to blazitzo any problem is just not for someone who has not been on the streets, any family history at all and you really need to "do your shopping online" though for what it is worth Manta seems to be the only place I have found with all the company information in one place ~ few ( 2-3 ) come up not practical mailing address on the usps zip code lookup and some are showing up on google search,...I just found Frac Focus which is providing a wealth of leads,.....

few if any of the companies are going to respond to a mailout resume stating no time in cab but for getting on it almost takes showing up at the field office with CDL in hand able to pass chem-screen, I am hoping to hire A & D Tests, Inc, with corporate office located in Waco, provides forensic specimen collection services and comprehensive substance abuse programs as well as provide DPS driver history in a mass-mailing ~ I got 9 letters in the mail Friday, telling of what is involved is Texas DPS online testing system was blazitzo so it was a busted excursion - online stuff tends to be scam.bam@moskau.ripper.pit though cloaked in massive & adroit nice-nice = beware as those are a leechfield draining $ from innocent and naive believers of mythology .....

very remote chances of anyone actually going online and feeding factual, useful information

this site is best I have found so far but watch Rockdoctor rip-the-gizzards when those believers of the fantasy post as though they know what 15,000 psi blowing a cam-lock will do

none of them have even remote grasp of field-surgery with no analgesic as routine survival

I can make a wound heal in under 80% of the time that clinical practice can

unless you already know how to live in a camper 7-20 days at a time, it is imperative to do the finding first, there are companies that will consider "just finished OTR school"

OK Nicholas, who is Manta? This is the second post I have seen you talk about them. I am trying to "do my homework" before traveling to the Great State.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. There is no better site for work in texas that fits your skills and experience and specific needs, and locations than this one right here. When you register (I used my AZ address) and tell them what you know, what you've done, and where you want to be, you will get as many as ten work opportunities thrown at you about once or twice a day. It seems like every employer looking for drivers posts them here. You can save them to look at later, and they ALWAYS give you the hot skinny on how to apply for the job, who to talk to, where to go, and what you need to be qualified. I'm not sure if anyone here has tried them, but they really should. It's a killer resource for finding people who are ready to hire. Hell, there's even live chicken hauling, or feed lot jobs if that's what you want. (but mostly oilfield and other CDL jobs)

Work In Texas. So, register here. Just do it. You'll be glad, it's a lot less work to get to ALL of the potential employers.

Well, try expanding your availability to more cities and counties. That may help.

we could do with a few more of those { doing the homework } Manta is a "business listing" website that I have become familiar with due to construction, seems all contractors I asked all use it so I tried it and started getting results, vastly better than I had seen anywhere else

not to hammer you ~ in computer-code sites we always respond to that type of work with: "Google is your friend." though a few of the areas occasionally get clumsy for no reason, Google is doing better than the rest of them put together, even if it does run on Navy Servers in the Bay Area
