Well guys, Its been 13 months of Dump trucks, 6 Tandem, 7 Truck and Pup, Contracting to 2 excavation companies. I do like the people I work for, and LOVE the equipment (New Western Stars), the pay is OK, lots of unpaid work (typical third party construction). However, consistent hours is always a problem, the constant push to work weekends, the issues with Excavators and Dozer's breaking down cutting days or weeks short, dealing with traffic and absolute idiots in residential area's, the constant undercutting by the usual suspects, etc etc etc. Basically, its not that great, it doesn't pay enough on the T4, and its 95% dangerous foreigners now.

SO, I'm gonna take a look at fuel hauling, before I just give up on trucking all together. That being said, KAG/Westcan, Seaboard/Mantei's, TriCan, Caron Transport are not options. My question is, are there any good local fuel hauling outfits left in Calgary? who hauls for Costco regularly? Is it worth looking into Airport Class 1 Fuel Jobs? Or is it all just more of the same as Freight, LCV and Dump?

Appreciate any info, much Thanks in Advance.

Costco contracts in each city. In Winnipeg I’ve seen different companies dropping at the regent gas bar. I asked the attendant how many drops a day, 7-9. What about 4 refuel? Doing onsite fueling? Class to 30 an hour in Winnipeg, easy work for the most part. Or find out who hauls in fuel loads to the cdn yards in Calgary. That’s steady work.

Getting out of trucking sounds like maybe the best option nowadays.

Those on-site fuel jobs where you’re refueling trucks , reefers and construction equipment is very tough work . I was just taking to a driver who works for canada clean fuels . they fuel our day cabs and the driver told me it’s a revolving door of employees. There’s two different size hoses you have to drag around and it’s back breaking work .Don’t forget you’re working outside in +30c or -30 in the winter, pulling that heavy hose in icey conditions . Yes they can make very good money , one guy said he makes $120k a year but that’s 14hrs everyday. he was crying about how much taxes he was paying

4refuel is not a very good company either they work you to your bone . my buddies friend worked there and quit because they treat you like crap

My personal opinion is BigHossvolvo should be looking at a way to exit trucking altogether. I just read on truck news that companies like DHl are now testing self driving trucks with volvo and loblaws is adding additional 20 self driving trucks by the end of this year and another 30 by 2026 . they have been testing them with the government. As we read about more major manufacturers and governments allowing more and more testing. The writing is on the wall folks

i’m thinking about trying to get a city or township job next year where i still might have to drive a small dump truck or plow truck in the winter, but it’s not a full time driving gig either . Problem is i still like the job it’s all the bs we have to deal with ,from the trucking companies making up new rules or policies. Or the government itself, the crappy pay or you’re working 12-14 hrs a day to make a decent living . Now you have greedy corporations wanting to get rid of us altogether

Ahh. Yeah I guess the hoses are a pain in the ###. What about getting on driving a plow for the province? Or is that subcontracted in Alberta?

Yea its gotten way worse LOL, they're pretty much THE WORST when it comes to fuel. Sunbelt, United, and New West Equipment have their own fuel divisions now, so they don't have to deal with them LOL.

Pretty much spot on, all those onsite fuel jobs, are also Class 3A, so in 6 months, all your Class 1A experience goes bye bye. and you're considered a new driver.

The job I had in mind, was Day Cab Tri-dem Tanker (or super B) doing local fuel deliveries. Apparently that was everyone elses dream also, every tanker company and recruiter I've spoken too, said when they hire (which isn't often now) its only for Sleeper Regional or OTR, you need prob 10 years to get into a daycab now. Fun Fact, KAG/Seaboard aren't hiring, they're full and have a 1000 resumes in Que for drivers.

I also contacted some headhunters and recruitment agencies I used to use at the LTL company, and they told me there is a huge backlog of people looking for class one work, and the majority want local tanker/bulk haul or dump truck. They told me what I'm making, and the schedule I have currently, would be considered top notch, and that I should prob stick to that.

So, long and short of it is, tanker work is just like everything else in trucking, not quite as bad as OTR, but not great either. Oh well, I guess I will just grind it out, until some non-driving options come up.

Also, all the aviation fueling services, only hire Filipino's LOL (go figure).

Volker Steven and the City of Calgary/Carmacks handle that, near impossible to get into any of them, and you have to start as a laborer.
