I deal with a fleet of 100 trucks and the X15 is eating cams at around 350k miles. 2 of the first set of trucks so far have had them replaced.

You got x15’s with that many miles on them already? I thought those engines just came out last year?

Yes they came out last year. Not me but a fleet I work with for my job. The fleet runs from Nc to Cali and back team drivers.

The new model X15, the next generation to the CM-2350? The X15 was just introduced last year, 350,000 miles you must be speaking of the ISX CM-2350, which has been known to eat the cam shaft. Carbon and soot are the issue, extended oil changes do not help.

That's around 30,000 miles a month or more per truck, or 6200 to 6500 miles a week. 2700 miles roughly NC to CA... Just trying to rap my head around the math.

Yes the X15 effiency series. The fleet got some of the first ones in Kenworth T680s. The first batch of those trucks are eating cams. Around 350k miles.

Are they doing extended oil changes? And with that kind of running, EGR tuneups at least twice or three times a year. They carbon up internally. The X15 is nothing more than a CM-2350 with higher compression. They also isolated the fuel pump so that when it blows apart, it does not infect the motor's oil galleys with shrapnel, destroying the block. You have a maintenance issue.

Not sure about extended oil changes. They trade every 2 years around 600k miles.

Carbon packing and soot, normally associated with extended oil changes, 30,000 miles and up. Seen quite a few. Eventually the oil filters plug, starve the motor of oil and bad things happen. They are a real mess to clean out and you get to replace the cam. They should be changing oil between 15,000 and 20,000 miles tops. 18,000 miles would be a good interval.

That could be a possibility. I don’t work for the fleet directly but am in there for my job. We use the fleet because of the high mileage to get our results faster.
