Rt 66 is the original hwy before they built the interstate. Using it is allowed, depending on if you're a gambler ! What I mean is, you may "jump Off" and so will 5000 other people. Then you may drive parallel to the interstate and the old road will suddenly dead-end. Or be washed out from a thunderstorm, and was never repaired. This happened on Rt 66 east of Amboy, Ca. They route you back onto I-40. 5 miles away.
Is route 66 in New Mexico safe for trucks?
