A buddy of mine drove south through that just before they closed the roads. He said the heat coming through his doors and windshield was intense. He was worried the plastic and fiberglass parts of his truck would burst into flames. It took him 2 days to get back through on a 5 hour detour. As far as I know it's still closed.

Saturday morning...

If the fire was as bad as reported they will have to re-pave it also. A heavy truck would destroy it even worse.

Most of the pavement is fine. Guard rails and signage have to be replaced. I think the big holdup is that they need to fall 3000+ hazard trees.

Yep, lots of big trees along the highway that they'll have to brig down. My guess is that they'll be opening it up in the next day or two and have lane closures as they take out the trees for the next few months. It's going to be a mess for a long while. Just north or there in Weed there has been construction for the last 2 years messing up traffic. This will just add to the mess.

Someone told me yesterday if you unhook your trailer in a situation like this and make a run for it, the insurance company won't cover the load or trailer in the event they are damaged/destroyed.
Is that true? -
